The 22nd Annual Tacoma Maritime Fest, which celebrates the history and contributions of Tacoma’s working waterfront, will be held in September at Thea’s Park and Foss Waterway Seaport, located at 535 Dock St., in downtown Tacoma.
This year’s free festival will offer a variety of activities for the entire family to experience, including toy boat building, remote control boats, displays of tug boats and tall ships, a beer garden, musical entertainment, sail boat rides, and an entertainment stage just for kids. Back again is the hugely popular “Quick and Dirty Boat Building Contest,” which features local teams building a boat from scratch and racing it around a course within six hours. Team registrations for the contest are now being accepted online at maritimefest.org/quickanddirty.
Sponsors for this year’s festival include the Port of Tacoma, Totem Ocean Trailer Express (TOTE), Vigor Industrial, Belina Interiors, Horizon Lines, Crowley Maritime, TEMCO, and the Foss Waterway Development Authority.
The 22nd Annual Tacoma Maritime Fest will be held on Sat., Sept. 20 and Sun., Sept. 21 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. More information is available online at maritimefest.org.
