Tacoma Rail will open its doors this month to allow the public to ride a train, tour locomotives, and celebrate the organization’s 100th anniversary.
“I hope people take this chance to see the railroad and the port from a view they can’t get any other day,” said Tacoma Rail Superintendent Dale King.
Tacoma Rail Open House visitors will have an opportunity to participate in free train rides around Tacoma’s tide flats, walk through a locomotive, get an exclusive peek at rarely seen rail maintenance equipment, rail yards, and other rail operations, and view model train displays. There will also be games, clowns, food, and giveaways. Tacoma Rail staff will answer questions and share stories about Tacoma Rail operations.
The Tacoma Rail Open House will be held on Sat., Aug. 23, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at 2601 State Route 509 North Frontage Road, in Tacoma. Limited parking will be available at the event site. Additional parking will be available at the Port of Tacoma’s Fabulich Center parking lot, located at 3600 Port of Tacoma Road. A shuttle bus will run about every 15 minutes between the Fabulich Center and Tacoma Rail between 9:15 a.m. until 3 p.m. The shuttle bus and parking are free.
The event is free and open to the public. More information is available online at TacomaRail.com.
