Benjamin Harrison was president of the United States when the newspaper that is today known as the Tacoma Daily Index was first published on this day way back in 1890. There were no extravagant celebrations for the paper today, not even a birthday cake, as city officials cited the large number of candles required as a fire hazard. Happy birthday, Tacoma Daily Index!
