This Halloween, step inside the Washington State History Museum to experience ghastly ghouls lurking behind corners and bone-chilling beasts tearing through the halls. Each haunted floor will depict an array of scenes, full of living, breathing horrors like vampires and monsters, to show how humans have been spooked throughout the centuries.
The museum, located at 1911 Pacific Ave., will run “Creepshow! Terror in Tacoma” nightly beginning Thurs., Oct. 25 through Sat., Oct. 27, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is $13 per person, $20 for VIP entrance and $10 for members, seniors, and military.
To produce its inaugural haunted museum, the Washington State History Museum partnered with veteran Hollywood special effects artist Marcel Banks. A fierce competitor on SyFy’s “Face Off,” Banks brings his expertise and passion for classic horror to transform the museum into a truly scary spectacle, painting and masking performers as creatures of the past. Brave souls who enter the museum will be greeted by a dark maze of exhibit halls, shuttering elevators and squeaking stairways amidst encountering the unknown — and undead — around each corner.
“This is the first year we’ve put on a haunted museum as a fundraiser, and we’re especially excited because it showcases how we’re redefining the perception history,” said Jennifer Kilmer, the director of the Washington State Historical Society. “With the help of our generous donors and sponsors, we’re able to feed upon the various concepts of what people found terrifying and bring to life the evolution of horror. Plus, ticket sales will help us subsidize some of the key programs that take place year round.”
Imagine trying to escape the bite of mutant hounds, only to encounter the vacant eyes of the Pumpkin King or be chased into a haunted movie theater for a 3-D nightmare. “Creepshow! Terror in Tacoma” will bring these scenes and more to two action-packed floors of the museum and multiple gallery spaces. The program is designed especially for teens and adults who love to be scared, and may not be suitable for those under 13.
