Tacoma City Council to discuss human services program funding, MLK development planning

Tacoma City Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday at City Hall to discuss funding recommendations for human services programs through the City of Tacoma’s community services fund. The city has appropriated funding according to the strategic priorities identified in the City’s 2010-2014 Human Services Strategic Plan. During a study session Tuesday, staff will provide information on the 2013 and 2014 external funding recommendations for human services, community mobilization and economic development. A public hearing on the issues is scheduled for later that day at City Hall.

In addition, Tacoma Community and Economic Development Department staff will provide an update on the MLK Subarea Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) Project. The City is in the process of issuing the first formal draft of the Subarea Plan and associated draft EIS for community review and input. An open house was held on Dec. 5.

Councilmembers will not take public comment during this week’s study session, which will be held on Tues., Dec. 11 at 12 p.m. in Room 16 of Tacoma Municipal Building North, 733 Market St. Audio from the meeting will be broadcast live on TV Tacoma and online at tvtacoma.com.
