Tacoma Community College will begin to celebrate its 50th Anniversary with an e-book release party this month.
The e-book, entitled The Open Door: A History of Tacoma Community College, was written by Tacoma Community College Alumnus Dale Coleman. It is a narrative history that shows how students, faculty, staff, and community leaders collaborated to create the college, which opened its doors on Sept. 13, 1965. Coleman is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Washington Information School. He is also a reference specialist in the Tacoma Community College Library. Coleman and his e-book project were featured in the Tacoma Daily Index last year (see “History Maker: As TCC turns 50, one researcher will tell its story,” Tacoma Daily Index, Sept. 18, 2014; and “Tacoma Daily Index Top Stories — September 2014,” Tacoma Daily Index, Oct. 1, 2014).
The e-book release party will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thurs., Jan. 22, at Tacoma Community College, located at 6501 S. 19th St., Building 11 Senate Room, in Tacoma. Coleman will read excerpts from The Open Door: A History of Tacoma Community College, which will be available online at tcc50.org after Thurs., Jan. 22.
