A campaign to encourage people to spend more time in downtown Tacoma this holiday season is under way. The campaign, entitled “Be Downtown,” is spearheaded by Sound Transit in partnership with the Downtown Merchants Group, Dome District Development Group, Hillside Development Council, and the Franciscan Polar Plaza, and offers a variety of incentives and activities for visitors, including the Franciscan Polar Plaza — Tacoma’s first outdoor holiday skating rink — located at Tollefson Plaza at 17th and Pacific; holiday running races; music; and a tree lighting ceremony. Additionally, bring your receipt from any participating “Tacoma+” business and you will be rewarded with a free skate rental at the Franciscan Polar Plaza. Pick up a “Tacoma+” map onboard Tacoma Link to find participating businesses, or look for their “Be Downtown” window clings. The offer is limited to the first 250 people (one free skate rental per receipt). Finally, downtown Tacoma’s Link light rail has been re-named the “Polar Plaza Express,” which is free and runs frequent and every day.
