The Washington State Trial Lawyers Association (WSTLA) has announced Pierce County Superior Court Judge Rosanne Buckner is winner of the organization’s 2008 Judge of the Year award. The award was presented May 1 during the WSTLA Law Day Dinner at the Washington State Convention Center and Trade Center in Seattle.
Attorney John Messina of Tacoma introduced Buckner, who has served 23 years as judge, at the award ceremony and noted her statewide judicial and community leadership. She is a past president of the Washington State Superior Court Judges Association, Washington Judge Foundation and Women Judges’ Fund for Justice and past dean of the Washington State Judicial College.
She graduated from Case Western Law School in 1975 after receiving a BA and Phi Beta Kappa Key at Ohio State University.
Buckner joined Superior Court as a commissioner in 1980 and was elected as the Department 6 judge five years later.
