Downtown On The Go will continue its Walk Tacoma series next week with a free walking tour that will highlight Tacoma’s rich history in candy-making along a 1.1-mile walking route.
The tour, which will be held on Weds., July 17 between noon and 1 p.m., will start at Tollefson Plaza, located at South 17th Street and Pacific Avenue, and head to the Dome District, with a ride back on Tacoma’s Link light rail. Participants will learn about Tacoma’s sweet side from historian and author Ron Magden. Along the route, participants will also be able to sample some of Tacoma’s finest candies and baked goods. The walk event is free and there is no need to pre-register.
Walk Tacoma is an eight-event walking series held on the first and third Wednesdays from April through August. The fun, themed walks, now in their fourth year, encourage downtown employees and residents to exercise and enjoy the outdoors by discovering the different walking routes and parks in downtown Tacoma. The walks are scheduled at the lunch hour and just after work to encourage downtown employees to walk during their workday, whether it is to and from work, at a lunch break, or to a nearby meeting.
Walking maps of the routes are available at no cost at Downtown On the Go, located at 950 Pacific Ave. (Suite 300), at many downtown businesses, or by contacting Downtown On the Go Coordinator Meagan Kula at (253) 682-1734 or dotg@tacomachamber.org.
