Pierce County law enforcement agencies put 13 extra officers on the roadways in Puyallup in an effort to reduce alcohol-related crashes reported the Tacoma-Pierce County DUI Task Force.

The DUI patrol Saturday night netted nine DUI arrests. Ten others were arrested for alcohol-related offenses and 29 were cited for other moving violations including speeding, driving without a seatbelt and driving on a suspended or revoked license.

“We do these special patrols often enough you’d think more motorists would get it,” said Sgt. Bob Thompson of the Puyallup Police Department, who coordinated the multi-agency patrol. “But nine people, impaired by alcohol or marijuana, put themselves and others in jeopardy Saturday night.”

If convicted, the nine drivers charged with impaired driving can expect to have their licenses suspended, pay up to $10,000 each in attorney, court and other fees, and have an ignition interlock device installed in their cars. They also can be sentenced to jail time.
