A trip to the Tacoma Mall helped Erin Kope net a $1,500 scholarship.
Kope, a recent Gig Harbor High School graduate, has been awarded a one-time monetary scholarship by the Simon Youth Foundation.
The Simon Youth Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational and career development opportunities to youth.
Simon Property Group, Inc., headquartered in Indianapolis, Ind., manages Tacoma Mall and several other malls in the U.S.
Kope, who was presented with the scholarship during a June 12 luncheon at Stanley & Seaforts in Tacoma, was one of a select number of high school seniors across the nation to be awarded the scholarship.
Jerry Alder, general manager of Tacoma Mall, kicked-off the check presentation luncheon with welcoming remarks and then handed Kope the scholarship check.
In addition to receiving a check for $1,500 to go toward tuition at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., where she plans to study pastoral ministries, Kope was also presented with several gift certificates from Nordstrom, Gene Juarez Salons, Regal Theaters and Old Navy in recognition of her scholastic and volunteer achievements over the past year.
Through the Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship Program, we have the opportunity to support the academic endeavors of promising youth in our community, said Lynn Castle, marketing director of Tacoma Mall. We are pleased that Erin Kope has been selected as a recipient of the Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship, exemplifying excellence in scholarship, leadership and volunteerism.
Kope was among approximately 2,800 students to apply for the scholarship by completing the application form available at the Simon Marketplace located at Simon malls nationwide, including Tacoma Mall.
Decisions were based on applicants academic performance, leadership skills, participation in school and community activities and financial need.
