Commissioners are scheduled Thursday to consider a $51 million demolition contract that calls for contractors to recycle at least 65 percent of the non-hazardous materials pulled from buildings to be demolished by the Port during the next two years. The 132 buildings and other structures to be razed have been used for chemical processing, power generation, warehousing and other heavy industrial activities. The structures must be removed to redevelop the Blair-Hylebos Peninsula, including relocating the Totem Ocean Trailer Express terminal and building a new terminal for NYK Line. The Commission meeting is scheduled to begin at noon in Room 104 of The Fabulich Center, 3600 Port of Tacoma Road in Tacoma. Meetings also are available for viewing live and on-demand anytime from the Port’s website at http://www.portoftacoma.com .
