Each year, November marks both the election season and the possible start of flu season. Election Day this year presents the first opportunity for Pierce County residents to combine voting with getting their flu shot in one go.

Pierce County Elections Department in partnership with http://www.GetaFluShot.com and Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department will be holding a flu clinic at Tacoma Area Coalition for Individuals with Disabilities (TACID), 6315 S. 19th St., Tacoma Nov. 4, 7:00 am to 10:00 am and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Flu shots are $30 — Medicare and a variety of other insurances accepted.

The clinic is part of a “Vote and Vax” campaign aimed at improving influenza vaccination rates through hundreds of coordinated clinics at polling places. A registered Pierce County voter, living anywhere in Pierce County, can cast their ballot at TACID.

The clinic will be open to all regardless of age or whether the individual is voting. However, voters are asked to vote first, then get the flu shot to prevent delays in the voting process.

According to Dr. Anthony Chen, Director of Health, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, the following people should get a flu shot:

— Pregnant women;

— People 50 years of age and older;

— People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions;

— People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities;

— People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:

— Healthcare worker;

— Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications
from the flu;

— Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age;
