The Fife Police Department and 10 other law enforcement agencies arrested 11 motorists Sat., Nov. 1 for DUI during a special patrol in the Fife area. Twelve others were arrested for other alcohol and drug violations, and checks of bars, taverns and restaurants by the Washington State Liquor Control Board resulted in six citations for sales to minor.
Transporting someone in custody for DUI, a trooper working the emphasis patrol encountered a motorist headed the wrong way up a freeway exit ramp. The impaired motorist was stopped by the trooper just before he entered the freeway going the wrong way. The driver was subsequently arrested and taken to jail.
Officers also arrested several persons for DUI who had perfect driving records and no prior DUIs. “It’s not fun to have to call your college-aged son to come and pick you up from jail, as one normally law-abiding motorist had to do Saturday night because he misjudged his ability to drive safely after consuming alcohol,” said Fife Police Lt. Kevin Farris.
Besides Fife PD, participating agencies included the Bonney Lake, Steilacoom, Lakewood, Puyallup, Milton, University Place, Orting departments. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department participated along with the Washington State Patrol.
