The World Trade Center Tacoma welcomes Ambassador Wang Yunxiang, Consul General of the Peoples Republic of China in San Francisco, as part of its monthly lecture series luncheon.
The topic of the Feb. 19 event is Sino-American relations and economic opportunities in China.
Mr.Wang has served in his present capacity since August 1999, with the rank of ambassador. His posting prior to San Francisco was as ambassador to Zambia. He has extensive diplomatic and foreign affairs experience, and has held postings in Norway, Uganda and Malta. In between his foreign assignments, he has served in high-ranking positions in various departments of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
China serves as a vital element to the increase of international trade in Washington state. Approximately, 80.2 percent ($86 billion) of Washington’s two-level trade economy is with Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) nations. Over $42 billion comes from Japan and China alone. In 2001, Chinas trade with Washington state ranked third in exports ($3 billion).
The program runs from 11:30 am to 1 p.m., at the Tacoma Club, 16th Floor, Wells Fargo Building, at the corner of 12th Street and Pacific Avenue. The fee is $20 for prepaid members, $25 prepaid nonmembers and $30 at the door.
