PLU to host Wang Center-sponsored symposium on China

Pacific Lutheran University will be holding a symposium, “China: Bridges for a New Century,” sponsored by the Wang Center for International Programs, from April 10 through April 12.

Participants will explore China’s place in the world and engage connections for our common future with prominent experts from the U.S. and abroad.

Sessions will examine cultural and social dynamics and compelling topics such as Sino-U.S. relations, Chinese youth, business and trade, health care and film.

Plenary speakers include former U.S. Ambassador to China J. Stapleton Roy, Nicholas Lardy, Senior Fellow at the Institute for International Economics, Lisa Stearns, Director of the China Program at the Norwegian Center for Human Rights, and Chen Xiangming, Chair of the Department of Education and Human Development at Peking University.

The Wang Center at PLU is dedicated to educating a new generation of global leaders and advocates for world peace.

This major public symposium signals our efforts to encourage and support public discussion of important world issues and developments, and in so doing build new bridges that link the academy with the broader community.

Registration for the April 10 and 11 sessions, held downtown at the Sheraton Tacoma Hotel, is $20 per day. Registration is free for students. Advance registration is expected. To register and to learn more about the symposium visit www.plu.edu/~wangctr, or call 253/535-7577.
