Metro Parks, Council joint session
The City Council and Metro Parks Tacoma Board of Commissioners will hold a joint study session. Potential discussion topics include the current state of the budgets for both the city and Metro Parks Tacoma, the proposed work plan through the end of 2003 for the ad hoc committee of city and Metro Parks employees and a legislative update, including the regular session and potential topics during the upcoming special session. The public may attend, but the City Council will not take any comments.

Foss Waterway cleanup contract
Completion of the Foss Waterway cleanup could get one step closer if the City Council approves a $46.2 million purchase resolution with Manson Construction. The council will consider a resolution to hire the Seattle firm to construct a sediment disposal site in the St. Paul Waterway, dredge and/or cap contaminated sediments and construct habitat mitigation projects. With council approval of the contract, Manson Construc-tion will start construction this summer and expects to finish work in December 2005. The company submitted the lowest bid for the project – coming in $4.5 million less than the only other bidder. Tacomas Waste-water Management will pay $26 million of the cleanup costs, the citys general fund will pay $6.5 million and the Foss Waterway Develop-ment Authority will pay $2.2 million. Other parties deemed responsible for the contamination will pay the remaining $11.5 million. The council will take public comment before voting on the purchase resolution.
Sewage treatment plant contract
The City Council will take public testimony and vote on a resolution to increase two initial specialized legal services contracts for the Central Treatment Plant upgrade project. The council will consider increasing an initial $25,000 contract with the Seattle firm Stoel Rives LLP, by $175,000 and, similarly, will consider increasing an initial $25,000 contract with the New York firm Hawkins Delafield & Wood by $175,000. The $350,000 increases were part of the original scope of work for the proposed $60 million upgrade of the plant which serves the majority of the citys residents.
