The solid waste collection companies serving unincorporated Pierce County and cities and towns other than Tacoma, Fircrest, Ruston, and University Place report that weather and road conditions have resulted in the cancellation of most services on Tues., Nov 23.
All Yard Waste collection services provided by American Disposal, DM Disposal, and Murrey’s Disposal scheduled for today are cancelled. The majority of residential garbage and recycling services will be cancelled with the exception of neighborhoods adjacent to the Murrey’s Disposal truck yard in the River Rd / Levee Rd area. This includes parts of Fife, Puyallup, and unincorporated Pierce County. Areas without any service on Tuesday include Edgewood, Milton, Gig Harbor, and most of Puyallup. The company reports it will be operating a limited number of commercial routes, mainly in high traffic areas. Currently the office is operating under a delay which has it opening at 10 a.m. However the company is unsure if conditions will allow safe passage for its employees and may choose to close. The company directs its customer to the Announcements page on the http://www.murreysdisposal.com site, which will be updated with more detailed info for customers who have been impacted by the weather.
As of this morning, Lakewood Refuse, LeMay Enterprises, and Pierce County Refuse have cancelled all operations. They may try to run limited operations later today, if possible. If your garbage, recycling, and yard waste is not collected, bring your carts and containers back to your house. For no additional charge, the company will accept twice your normal amount of garbage, recycling, or yard waste at the next regularly scheduled pick-up day. If this requires you to use a container other than the ones you’d normally use for garbage, recycling, or yard waste, please make sure you label the container.
If you receive solid waste services from the City of Tacoma, Town of Ruston, or University Place Refuse, please contact your service provider for more information: Ruston — (253) 732-6823; Tacoma: (253) 591-5543; University Place Refuse (serving most of University Place and Fircrest): (253) 564-3212
The Pierce County Department of Public Works and Utilities strongly recommends that customers NOT attempt to self-haul garbage, recyclables, or yard waste. Please wait until the weather improves. The facility operator reports that the Hidden Valley and Purdy Transfer Stations will open as normal. Opening the Prairie Ridge Transfer Station may be delayed if employees have difficulties getting there. Please call (253) 847-7555 for more information. Note: the Anderson Island and Key Center stations are closed as usual on Tuesday. All facilities will be closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving.
