Tacoma City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing Tues., Nov. 30 to consider the recommendations of the Human Services Commission for community services to spending approximatly $2.2 million in 2011 for local human services programs. The funding will be allocated from the “Community Services” general fund.
According to supporting documents prepared for the meeting, the City of Tacoma appropriates approximately $2 million annually to programs providing human services to Tacoma residents. Seventy-five human services programs submitted applications that address one of the three strategic priorities identified in the City’s 2010 Human Services Strategic Plan: prepare children and youth for success; improve employment and self sufficiency for adults; and meet basic needs.
The Council-appointed Human Services Commission applied the rating criteria identified in the Human Services Strategic Plan to its review of the applications from human services programs and developed recommendations to Council for the funding of programs during the 2011-2012 biennium.
The hearing Tuesday will start at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, first floor, Tacoma Municipal Building, 747 Market St. The hearing will be broadcast live on TV Tacoma and on http://www.tvtacoma.com .
