The third round of Spaceworks Tacoma artists have been selected and in March their new installations and projects will be on display in downtown Tacoma. With the third round, there are a total of 16 spaces and 51 projects.

Julie Jansen, Gabriel Brown, Holly Senn, Jessica Spring, Nicole Linde, Rachel Hibbard, Celeste Cooning, Cheryl Rux and Nichole Vandever, Acataphasia Grey, Amy Bay, Wayzgoose (coordinated by King’s Books), Jennifer Adams, Amy Oates, Jeannine Shinoda and Ariel Brice, Janette Ryan, 4th Wall Theatre, Fab 5, Jason Ganwich, Barefoot Collective, James Grayson Sinding, and Sara Montour are the latest contributing artists.

“We continue to be impressed with the level of quality and innovation of the artists who are applying,” says Amy McBride, the City of Tacoma’s Arts Administrator. “I look forward to the activity and excitement that happens when awaiting new installations. Knowing a transition is coming makes me value the existing exhibits even more because I know they are temporary.”

Spaceworks Tacoma is a joint initiative of the City of Tacoma, Shunpike and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce designed to fill empty storefronts and vacant space in downtown Tacoma with active art exhibits. The initiative makes no- and low-cost temporary space available to artists, fledgling creative entrepreneurs, organizations, and community groups who transform vacant spaces through artist residencies, creative enterprises and art installations (artscapes).

Locations and support for Spaceworks Tacoma are provided by property owners Eric Cederstrand, Ted Johnson, Herb Simon, Steve Shaub, George Howe, Al Howe, Jeff Wohler, and Ruby Chambers; and property managers Shannon Tiegs of Roberson Building Company and Michael Norman of Neil Walter Company. Community partners include Tacoma Contemporary, Broadway Center for the Performing Arts and King’s Books.
