The Tacoma Community College Foundation has received an $80,030 grant from the Herbert B. Jones Foundation to fund the expansion of the colleges Entrepreneurs Succeed program.
The Entrepreneurs Succeed program is offered through the colleges Downtown Center and is a 10-week program designed to prepare students to form, establish and sustain a business.
It teaches a self-directed, practical approach to profitable living and combines a series of structured life skills and business principles.
Following federal Small Business Administration guidelines and with the aid of extensive one-on-one consulting, students complete a formal business plan including business structure, marketing plan, finance proposal, operating plan, break-even analysis and operating forecast.
Students also establish working partnerships with business and community-based organizations.
The program expansion is in partnership with local faith-based community networks and the Tacoma Urban League. The program can now accommodate 100 individuals each year, up from 80. It aims to help students become self-sufficient individuals contributing to the local tax base.
Expansion efforts target at-risk young adults who seek to channel their talents, ideas and skills into entrepreneurial endeavors. High school juniors and seniors are a primary target audience.
