The third community meeting for the Stadium Way Arterial project will be held June 22 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located on the first floor of the Municipal Building, 747 Market St. The meeting is an opportunity for the public to review construction plans and provide comment on the project that is scheduled to begin this summer. Community feedback will be incorporated into the plans and specifications, where possible.
Construction plans, which are approximately 90 per cent complete, will be on display at the meeting. These plans include traffic channelization and landscaping, traffic control plans, the detour routes and phases of construction.
Roadway construction will take place from South 9th Street and Commerce Street through the intersection of Division Avenue and North E Street and end at the intersection of North 1st Street and Tacoma Avenue.
The project scope of work will include complete removal of existing pavement, grind and overlay, upgrades to street lighting, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and other utilities, construction of a new pavement section and sidewalks, accessibility improvements to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, addition of bike lanes and other Complete Streets concepts such as green areas and rain gardens. The project will also include left turn-lanes where necessary and the rehabilitation of an old retaining wall along Schuster Parkway, near Interstate 705.
Construction is expected to begin late summer 2011 and be substantially complete by November of 2012.
