City Hall provides updates on key infrastructure projects

This month’s edition of the City of Tacoma’s “News You Can Use,” a newsletter intended to give residents a look at important issues around the city, includes updates on a handful of important infrastructure projects throughout the city.

Chip-Seal Street Repairs — The City of Tacoma will undergo its four-week chip-seal street repair program through Aug. 11, depending on the weather. Check the City’s Twitter account for updates at http://www.twitter.com/CityofTacoma ;

Hylebos Bridge Rehabilitation — The contractor is currently installing the electronic drive systems and preparing for systems testing. The fixed span decks were poured as planned and now the last concrete pour is the movable span deck overlay. The project is scheduled for completion in October 2011. Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation-Puget Gulch — In the coming month, clearing and grubbing of vegetation from the work zone will continue as well as construction of the new access road through the gulch. Once the access road is completed, workers will install the temporary sewer by-pass pumping system and will start the installation of the new sanitary and storm sewer system. Puget Gulch is closed to the public during all construction activities;

Lincoln Avenue Bridge — In one work zone, the contractor is removing the original bridge deck in preparation for the construction of the new bridge deck. In another work zone, the contractor is cleaning and repainting the steel structure. The bridge will remain closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic for the duration of the project.
