Residents of Tacoma and Ruston are invited to celebrate the grand re-opening of Ruston Way on Sat., April 21 at 9 a.m. The event, which will be held at 5005 Ruston Way, will showcase the new pedestrian- and traffic-friendly road that replaces the historic Ruston Way Tunnel, which served as a portal to the town of Ruston and Point Defiance. The tunnel was permanently closed last summer so developers of Point Ruston, a master-planned residential community and urban village slated for former Asarco smelter site, could re-align Ruston Way and install utilities, landscaping, and sidewalks. Following words from local dignitaries and an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, a five-kilomoter race and fun run will follow a procession down the new and improved roadway. The race starts and finishes at the corner of the new Grand Avenue and Ruston Way. It runs along Commencement Bay and features stunning views of Puget Sound, Mt.
