UW Tacoma Prairie Line Trail grand opening Sept. 25

You could be among the first to set foot on the first phase of a new urban trail in downtown Tacoma when the University of Washington Tacoma celebrates the grand opening of the UWT Station segment of the Prairie Line Trail next week.

The Prairie Line Trail is an approximately one-mile segment of a former rail corridor that dates back to the late-1800s and stretches from the south end of downtown Tacoma, through the Brewery District and the University of Washington Tacoma campus, across Tollefson Plaza and Pacific Avenue (adjacent to the Tacoma Art Museum), and ends at the South 15th Street ramp at Thea Foss Waterway. University of Washington Tacoma officials designed a four-block segment of the trail that runs through the school’s campus. The City of Tacoma is designing the other segments of the trail that run between Dock Street and South 17th Street, and South 21st Street to South 25th Street. Last month, the City of Tacoma and BNSF Railway reached an agreement that will help complete the full length of the Prairie Line Trail.

University of Washington Tacoma officials will hold a grand opening celebration to mark the opening of the UWT Station segment of the Prairie Line Trail on Thurs., Sept. 25, between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., at the Central Campus Stairs, located at 1900 Commerce St., on the University of Washington Tacoma campus.
