2 attorneys join Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority Board

Tacoma City Council recently appointed two attorneys to the Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority (TCRA) Board.

The 10-member panel administers loans to a variety of clients, including low-income Tacoma families who need help buying or repairing their homes; developers that provide multi-family housing to low-income families; businesses that create jobs or rehabilitate blighted commercial spaces; and non-profit organizations that provide housing assistance and economic development services to the Tacoma community, according to the City’s Web site.

TCRA Board members are appointed by Tacoma City Council; serve two-year terms; and typically include two members with experience as attorneys, two members with experience in banking or financing, two members with experience in the construction or development industry, two members with experience as certified public accountants, and two members with three or more years of experience as licensed real estate brokers or agents. The TCRA Board typically meets at Tacoma City Hall at 7:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.

In September, the City issued a call for applicants to fill four positions on the TCRA Board: two positions required experience as an attorney; one position required experience as a certified public accountant; and one position required experience in the construction or development of affordable housing (see “City of Tacoma: 4 positions open on TCRA Board,” Tacoma Daily Index, Sept. 25, 2014). The deadline for applications expired on Weds., Oct. 15. Tacoma City Council’s Neighborhoods and Housing Committee interviewed two candidates — attorney Mathew LaCroix and attorney Daniel Montopoli — during a public meeting on Mon., Nov. 3. The committee then forwarded its recommendations for appointments to the full city council for final confirmation (see “2 attorneys could join Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority Board,” Tacoma Daily Index, Nov. 21, 2014).

During a public meeting on Tues., Nov. 25, Tacoma City Council adopted a resolution to appoint LaCroix to a two-year term to expire on Dec. 31, 2016; and appoint Montopoli to fill an unexpired term to expire on Dec. 31, 2015.

“We are really looking forward to their involvement on the committee,” said Tacoma City Councilmember Lauren Walker, who serves as Chair of Tacoma City Council’s Neighborhoods and Housing Committee.
