The Washington State History Museum invites area residents to explore downtown Tacoma this month during the Tacoma History Hike.

The event, which begins at the Washington State History Museum, will send walkers, runners, and bikers out to a variety of checkpoints within a 1.5-mile radius to answer Tacoma-related historical trivia questions within an allotted time period before returning to the museum for music, awards, goody bags, and free admission. Participants can sign up solo or in teams of up to five people.

“Downtown Tacoma is such a lively and historic place,” said Washington State History Museum Development Director Laura Berry. “The History Hike is a fun and active way to engage the public with our great city and support the preservation of history at the same time.”

The Tacoma History Hike will be held on Sun., June 28 (check-in and walk-up registration begins at 12:30 p.m.; maps will be handed out at 1:50 p.m.; hike begins at 2 p.m.). The cost is $10 for Washington State Historical Society Member children ages 6 to 17 ($15 for non-members); $20 for Washington State Historical Society Member adults ($25 for non-members); and $40 for Washington State Historical Society Member family teams ($50 for non-members). Participants are encouraged to pre-register, and the registration fee includes a free t-shirt. Proceeds from the Tacoma History Hike benefit the History Fund, which helps support the work of the Washington State Historical Society in preserving and sharing Washington’s rich artifacts and stories.
