Tacoma Historical Society seeks volunteers for museum projects

The Tacoma Historical Society is looking for volunteers to help clean and organize its museum headquarters in downtown Tacoma.

“The good news is that we’ve been so busy with programs and events and museum visitors that we simply haven’t had time to work in the back,” said a Tacoma Historical Society spokesperson. “Our goal is to get ready to bring in artifacts for the next exhibit, “Sweet Success,” featuring Tacoma’s early candy manufacturers.”

The organization plans to enlist volunteers to help re-file collection artifacts from previous exhibits; store items from the Tacoma Historical Society’s 9th Annual Destiny Dinner fundraiser in September; clean out the administrative office in preparation for hiring staff; rearrange storage of retail merchandise; catch up on administrative filing; clear and clean workroom counters; wash exterior windows; and dust and vacuum.

If you would like to volunteer, the Tacoma Historical Society will hold a work party on Sun., Oct. 25, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., at the Tacoma Historical Society Museum, located at 919 Pacific Ave., in downtown Tacoma. Parking in downtown Tacoma is free on Sundays. More information is available online at tacomahistory.org.

In the long-term, the Tacoma Historical Society is looking for volunteers to help reorganize administrative files; hang remaining collections artwork and artifacts; organize and label research bookshelves; develop an emergency plan that includes contact lists and evacuation routes; photograph each and every collection object; and create a database of books.
