Local history buffs will celebrate Murray Morgan’s 100th birthday during an informal gathering this month at the Tacoma Public Library.

Born in Tacoma on Feb. 16, 1916, Morgan was a writer, teacher, and historian who made Northwest history come alive through popular books that include Skid Road: An Informal Portrait of Seattle, Puget’s Sound: A Narrative of Early Tacoma and the Southern Sound, The Mill on the Boot: The Story of the St. Paul & Tacoma Lumber Company, South on the Sound: An Illustrated History of Tacoma and Pierce County, The Dam, and The Last Wilderness. Morgan died on June 22, 2000, in Tacoma.

Morgan’s friends and fans will gather to share stories or favorite passages from his work on Sat., Feb. 27, at 10 a.m., in the Murray and Rosa Morgan Room in the Northwest Room at the Tacoma Public Library’s Main Branch, located at 1102 Tacoma Ave. S., in Tacoma.
