Subject of Hearing:
The subject of the public hearing is a potential moratorium extension on certain high impact uses within the South Tacoma Groundwater Protection District (STGPD).
Background:
In March 2023, the City Council adopted a moratorium to temporarily prohibit certain high-impact uses in STGPD while the City and partners work on the STGPD code update, which is anticipated to be completed in 2025. The existing moratorium is set to expire on March 20, 2024. The proposed moratorium extension would continue prohibiting the establishment of new or the expansion of existing underground storage tanks, metal recycling, and auto wrecking facilities within the STGPD, while allowing the current level of these uses and activities to be maintained for an additional six months.
Public comments regarding the proposed amendment will be heard during a public hearing to occur at approximately 5:15 p.m., on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, as part of a regularly scheduled Tacoma City Council meeting. The meeting can be heard by dialing 253-215-8782 or through Zoom at www.zoom.us/j/84834233126 and entering the meeting ID 848 3423 3126 and passcode 349099, when prompted. To access the hearing in an alternative format or to request a reasonable accommodation, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at 253-591-5505, before 5:00 p.m., on the Monday preceding the City Council meeting. TTY or speech-to-speech users please dial 711 to connect to Washington Relay Services. Written comment will be accepted during a five-day public comment period commencing at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024.
