A groundbreaking ceremony for an intersection that will serve the Frederickson Employment Center, including the Boeing Co. and other manufacturers and have the largest carrying capacity of any intersection within Pierce County, took place this morning.
Government and business officials turned out at Canyon Road and East 176th street for the event, including Pierce County Executive John W. Ladenburg; County Councilmember Kevin Wimsett of District 3; Port of Tacoma Commissioner R.Ted Bottiger; and representatives of the Frederickson community, The Boeing Co., Toray Composites America Inc. and Pierce County Public Works and Utilities.
This interchange project is significant in that it serves unincorporated Pierce Countys largest employment center (with 4,000 employees and capacity for 22,000 more in coming years).
The roadway improvements will provide for efficient traffic operations at the intersection serving the employment center and linking Frederickson with other parts of the Puget Sound region.
As other roadway projects are completed within the planned Frederickson Town Center, the intersection will become the communitys cornerstone as envisioned by residents in the Frederickson Community Plan.
