Construction set to begin at Fort Steilacoom Park

A ground breaking ceremony July 10 will kick off a $2.3 million improvement project at Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood.

The event at 2 p.m. near the festival staging area will be a highlight of the Lakewood Summer Festival.

Participants include Pierce County Executive John W. Ladenburg and District 6 Councilmember Dick Muri, Steilacoom Mayor Ron Lucas, Lakewood Deputy Mayor Helen McGovern, and Ohno Construction Co. of Seattle and landscape architect Lynn William Horn & Associates of Lakewood.

Lakewood Parks and Recreation Director Mary Dodsworth and Pierce County Parks and Recreation Director Jan Wolcott will serve as masters of ceremony.

The project calls for constructing three new soccer fields and two new baseball/softball fields, renovating two existing baseball fields and adding parking areas and paths.
