General aviation flight operations have resumed at Pierce County Airport (Thun Field) in response to a Federal Aviation Administration notice removing restrictions imposed following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks against the U.S.
The reactivation notice allows aircraft equipped with transponders to fly within the 20 nautical mile radius of Seattle-Tacoma Airport. Pilots are required by the newly issued notice to monitor a special radio channel for emergency instructions.
Some restrictions remain in place, including circling the airport, banner towing, traffic watch and unpredictable flight paths.
