Tacoma Narrows Rotary charity auction a success

The Tacoma Narrows Rotary Club, which serves the University Place and Fircrest communities, hosted its annual Charity Auction – “Spring for the Kids” for 300 plus guests on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center in downtown Tacoma.

The auction, which is held to benefit University Place and Fircrest area children and other Rotary Charities, was again a fantastic success. The Club, which has 41 members, raised over $64,000, including $18,200 in support of The Families Unlimited Network (FUN) whose mission is to draw families into supportive relationships that foster well-being and stability. Program services include a food bank, the SPOT After-School Program for youth in 5th-7th grades, and the Family Advocacy Program, that provides emergency rent and utility assistance and community services referrals to families in crisis.

This was the Club’s 12th consecutive auction during which time over $415,000 has been raised to provide aid to many children, individuals, and agencies that have benefited from the Club’s help.

Examples of the Club’s giving include Curtis High School College Scholarships, Curtis Junior High School Students of the Month, Tacoma Community College scholarships, International Youth Exchange, Community Giving, Courage Classic in support of Mary Bridge Children’s Center, International Service in support of Rotary projects worldwide, and Paint Tacoma/Pierce County Beautiful.
