“Judy Horn, a digital artist and photographer from Tacoma, has received top awards at the Annual Educational Conference and Print Competition for the second year.In 1999, Horn entered competition as a member of the Washington Photographic Artist’s Guild and received recognition for her use of digital tools to enhance and restore both color and black and white photographs, as well as create fine art pieces.During the conference in Olympia, Horn entered four pieces in the artist’s categories, earning four ribbons denoting an Excellent Rating for each piece. The pieces earned first, second and third places in electronic imaging, two Judges Choice designations, a trophy for Artist of the Year, a trophy for Best Artist in Electronic Imaging, and her composite work titled Coffee at Grandma’s received Best of Show honors.Another of Horn’s composite images, created from nine individual pictures, designed for the American Cancer Society to depict the Tacoma Relay for Life, has been published in the organization’s national calendar for the month of May.Horn entered four additional pieces in the photographer’s competition commercial divisions and received ribbons designating excellent ratings for all four. Two images also received ‘Judges Choice honors, with one awarded Best in Category – Architectural Image and the Fuji-Film Professional Masterpiece Trophy. The same piece received first place in Tacoma’s Maritime Fest Art Show.Horn received a scholarship to attend the Creative Retreat in Paradise, Texas, sponsored by the Professional Photographers of America.Horn’s work is on display this month at Art Concepts on Broadway in downtown Tacoma, and will be featured in the Third Thursday Art Walk, tomorrow, April 20.
