The most recent edition of the Port of Tacoma’s Pacific Gateway magazine is now available online.
This edition highlights the recently completed Husky Terminal. At 74 acres, it doubles K Lines presence in Tacoma and is scheduled for expansion to 96 acres in 2006. Also profiled is the history of containerized shipping in Puget Sound through the eyes of George Osborn, Husky Terminals retired Vice President and General Manager.
The expansion of the Port through projects like Husky Terminal is contributing greatly to the economic vitality of Pierce County and Washington state. This edition of Pacific Gateway examines results of the Ports economic impact study.
Port activity does more than strengthen the regional economy and create family-wage jobs, it benefits the environment. As explained in another story, expansion of Port facilities results in the cleanup of historic contamination and the creation of wildlife habitat.
Finally, the Gateways cover story looks at Tacomas Tall Ships 2005 festival, and more than two centuries of tall ship activity on Commencement Bay.
