Paintings by Frank Lind will be on view at The Gallery at Tacoma Community College Jan. 9 through Feb. 21. An opening reception is slated for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 12. Lind will present a slide talk at the opening. Admission is free.
Lind taught painting at Brooklyns Pratt Institute, the nations largest art school, for more than 25 years before becoming Pratts Dean of the School of Art and Design. While introducing American arts newest trends to a litany of art students and colleagues, Lind has remained devoted to the concept of contemporary realism in its many forms.
Self-described as a photographist, Lind uses photography as a tool to produce his paintings rather than as a final medium. He first conceives his works by selecting photographs and capturing compositions.
Lind is a painter with an eye on the past, according to guest curator Dr. Lori Verderame. Having studied American realism and curated exhibitions on the topic over the years, I remain captivated by the paintings put forth by one of the movements unmistakable masters.
The Gallery at TCC is located on Tacoma Community Colleges main campus, 6501 S. 19th St., Tacoma. For easiest access, use the entrance to the college off South 12th Street between Pearl and Mildred streets.
