City Council members approved a resolution Jan. 17 that will place the Associated Casino Employees for Survival (ACES) initiative measure on the ballot at the next Municipal or General Election (on Nov. 7). The ACES initiative seeks to amend a 1999 City ordinance that would have banned all state-licensed commercial gambling in Tacoma beginning Jan. 1, 2006. The initiative seeks to allow existing state-licensed commercial gambling activity within Tacoma. Because the proponents of the petition gathered a sufficient number of valid signatures, the City Charter requires that the City Council either enact the initiative measure or refer it to the voters in the next municipal or general election.
