WSDOT work in Tacoma next week

Due to updated weather reports, crews plan to take advantage of a forecast calling for dry weather next week. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, two lanes of northbound Interstate 5 (I-5) and the ramp from northbound I-5 to I-705 will be closed from 10pm to 5:30am the following morning.

During work hours, WSDOT will replace lane markings damaged by snow-removal efforts. The work is weather-dependent and will be cancelled if the roadway is wet.
Work began on this $72.9 million project to construct safety and mobility improvements on this segment of I-5 between South 48th Street and Pacific Avenue in August 2005, and is scheduled for completion in spring 2008.

For the week of Feb. 6, traffic impacts include shoulder closures through the project area and construction trucks occasionally using nearby City of Tacoma streets.

The ramp from South 38th Street to northbound I-5 is closed through summer 2006. Closing the ramp allow crews to efficiently construct the wall and bridge needed to realign the ramp. Crews also closed one lane of the I-705 ramp to southbound I-5 due to narrowed I-5 lanes in the merge area.
