Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) maintenance crews will close the right eastbound lane of State Route 16 across the existing Tacoma Narrows Bridge from 10 p.m. Saturday, April 22, to 8 a.m. Sunday, April 23 while they install a section of new pedestrian railing.
The 32-foot section of railing will replace railing that was damaged by an overturned crane on March 27.
Referencing engineering plans from the existing bridge, WSDOT’s bridge maintenance crews fabricated three new pedestrian rail panels. The new panels will match the existing bridge railing in color and design, and will provide the same level of protection to motorists.
Temporary cable railing that was installed immediately after the crane incident will be removed in the process of installing the permanent railing.
