Annette Swillie will become the newest member of the City of Tacoma Civil Service Board at a ceremony set for 5 p.m., on Monday, March 18, in the City Council Chambers.
Swillie lives in Tacoma and has worked for the Washington State Senate for 10 years.
The vacancy occurred when a board member resigned in January.
The remaining members of the board appointed Swillie, who will serve until the next general election in November 2003.
If Swillie wants to serve longer, she must run in the general election in November 2003.
The Civil Service Board is a five-member quasi-judicial body that:
n legislates and revises Civil Service rules;
n investigates personnel issues;
n adjudicates claims for classified employees;
n conducts appeal hearings on suspensions, demotions and dismissals for classified city employees; and
n hears complaints and controversies about personnel rules and disciplinary matters.
The Civil Service Board meets at 5 p.m., on the first and third Monday of each month, in the Municipal Building (City Council Chambers), 747 Market. St.
