Safe Streets Campaign, the community resource organization that focuses on empowering individuals, families and youth to create safe neighborhoods, will honor six 2004 Safe Streets Superstars at its Oct. 20 annual luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tacoma Sheraton.
These Safe Streets Superstars have overcome community odds via persistence, innovation and tireless dedication and enthusiasm. They specialize in organizing, mobilizing and empowering individuals, families and neighborhoods to work in partnership with law enforcement, schools, government and businesses to reduce and eliminate illegal drugs, gang activities and associated violence. Their stories exemplify the organizations mission of uniting neighbors against crime, and their actions make Tacoma and Pierce County a better place to live.
This years recipients include:
*Sherlisa Richie, Youth Leading Change Graduate
*Mike Hayes, Pierce County Sheriffs Department
*Justin Madden, Youth Leading Change Member
*John Pellessier, South End Neighborhood Council
*Donna Fulton, Pacific Neighborhood Association, Lakewood
*Sue Burdyshaw, Stewart Heights Neighborhood Coalition
Also at the luncheon, Safe Streets board members will ask the business community to continue to financially support the organizations efforts to organize neighborhood block groups, provide outreach to youth and promote initiatives to eradicate the use and manufacture methamphetamines.
Columbia Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Melanie Dresser will give the keynote address.
