The Daffodil Marine Festival & Parade is celebrating its 68th year by “Honoring the Past.”
Weekend Events
The Marine Festival runs from April 17th through 19th, 2020. Over 150 boats from Everett to Olympia converge upon the Tacoma Yacht Club for a weekend of fun that is highlighted by a Grand Marine Boat Parade.
The Grand Marine Boat Parade
Background
The parade is the culmination of the Pierce County Daffodil parade season and the signal of the opening of the boating season in the South Sound. The Daffodil Marine Parade traces its roots back to 1952 when a group of yacht club members used the daffodils from the Daffodil Land Parade to decorate their boats. The tradition expanded and grew each year with 30 to 40 elaborately decorated themed boats participating in the Parade each year. The Parade is sponsored by the Tacoma Yacht Club and is supported by the Pierce County Daffodil Festival, Sea Scouts, area Jr. ROTC, City of Tacoma, Metropolitan Parks, local businesses and Puget Sound boating clubs.
Parade Time
The Grand Marine Parade takes place on Sunday, April 19th at 11:30 a.m. starting from the Tacoma Yacht Club, traveling down Foss Waterway to the Tacoma Glass Museum and back. The parade can be viewed from anywhere along Ruston Way or along the Thea Foss Waterway. Metropolitan Parks has opened Dune Park adjacent to the clubhouse property. This area is beautiful and provides multiple areas to view the parade.
