The Tacoma City Council invites qualified individuals to apply for one of three volunteer positions on the Landmarks Preservation Commission, which oversees the establishment and regulation of landmarks, landmark sites and historic districts. Prospective applicants should have a demonstrated interest in and a basic familiarity with historic preservation issues. Volunteer positions are available in two areas of expertise:
— Architect (one vacancy): Open to professional architects, with current or expired certifications;
— Professional (two vacancies): Open to individuals with documented professional experience or training related to historic preservation originating from employment or study within a related discipline.
Commission meetings are held at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month, and the commission is comprised of 11 citizen volunteers who serve three-year terms. To ensure consideration, applications are due no later than Nov. 12. To apply, contact Cindy DeGrosse, Mayor’s Office, at (253) 594-7848, or visit http://www.cityoftacoma.org/cbcapplication .
