Seven contractors have submitted bids for a public works project that involves the second phase of the Thea Foss Waterway Site 11 Esplanade. The project calls for the construction of a 300-foot-long concrete esplanade with lighting, railing, and park benches. The project will also install 17 new piles to support the new esplanade. The project budget is estimated at $1.6 million to $1.7 million.
Two years ago, the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board awarded a $500,000 grant to the City of Tacoma to help fund the project, which aims to create a 1.5-mile esplanade along Thea Foss Waterway.
Last month, the City of Tacoma published a legal notice in the Tacoma Daily Index advertising the project and requesting bid proposals. The bid deadline expired on Tues., April 15.
