Last month, the Tacoma Daily Index reported on its blog some ominous signs at Bernardo’s Aroma Cafe in Wells Fargo Plaza downtown. The windows were papered over. The lights were off. An empty cash register sat on a table. There weren’t any signs regarding closing for the holidays (or permanently) or remodeling. Phone calls went straight to a generic-type voice mail box. A representative at Unico Properties, which manages Wells Fargo Plaza, told the Index Bernardo Tuma sold the business. On Dec. 30, the new owner, Cyndi Hodge, held an open house for her new business — Pacific Coffee House and Deli — in the space. The cafe officially opened its doors on Jan. 3 and is located at 1201 Pacific Avenue. It is open Monday through Friday between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. For more information, visit the cafe’s
Facebook page.
