Members of the City Council are scheduled Dec. 8 to consider a resolution that would adopt the 2009 Affordable Housing Policy Framework and Action Plan. From June through November, the City’s Neighborhoods and Housing Committee reviewed the current affordable housing policies of Tacoma and other localities. The City has established a goal to retain a minimum of 20 percent of all housing in the downtown area and in each of the mixed-used centers to be affordable to low-income housing. The policy and action plan would provide specific direction to the City Manager and to the Planning Commission for implementation of this policy, including modification of the City’s fee ordinance, Comprehensive Plan and Land Use Regulatory Code.
