Federal regulators have cleared the sale of 80 Osco Drug stores owned by Boise-base Albertsons to the parent company of Brooks Pharmacy, a New England chain.
The Federal Trade Commission said it was waiving the remainder of the waiting period for the sale by Albertsons to Maxi Drug Inc. for $240 million, Albertsons announced Wednesday.
Albertsons is the nations number two food and drug retailer, with 2,492 stores in 37 states, including several in the Tacoma area.
Albertsons has over 220,000 employees.
Brooks Pharmacy is the oldest drug-store chain in New England.
