Are you an aspiring artist or community group leader with an innovative and creative business idea that could benefit Tacoma? If so, consider applying for Spaceworks Tacoma’s Creative Enterprise Program.
Spaceworks Tacoma, a joint initiative of the City of Tacoma and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber designed to activate empty storefronts and vacant spaces in Tacoma, is accepting applications from individuals or groups who have plans for long-term creative and innovative for-profit or non-profit business ideas, and need assistance with renting retail space and developing their business plans.
“Providing space to artists and entrepreneurs is one way we can support and help grow innovation in this city,” said City of Tacoma Arts Administrator Amy McBride. “In return for rent-free space, we’re looking for projects that will go above and beyond, and really become part of the social and economic fabric of Tacoma.”
Spaceworks Tacoma’s Creative Enterprise Program aims to provide artists, designers, crafters, consultants, organizations, community groups, and other fledgling entrepreneurs with a training ground to test new ideas, products, and services, with a safety net of technical assistance, mentorship, and low-cost space for up to six months.
Since July 2010, Spaceworks Tacoma has worked with over 150 projects in 31 spaces around Tacoma, including Tinkertopia and Do The Extraordinary, among others.
Applications for 2015 Spaceworks Tacoma projects are available online at spaceworkstacoma.com/apply/apply-to-creative-enterprises/. Applications must include a project proposal; work samples with descriptions; a resume; and a budget. The application deadline expires on Mon., Nov. 24, at 5 p.m.
Spaceworks Tacoma Manager Heather Joy will host a one-on-one Question-And-Answer meeting to discuss the program on Sat., Oct. 25, between noon and 8 p.m., at Destiny City Comics (another Spaceworks Tacoma participant), located at 218 St. Helens Ave. More information about the event is available online here.
More information about Spaceworks Tacoma is available online at spaceworkstacoma.com or by contacting Heather Joy at (253) 682-1722 or heatherj@tacomachamber.org.
