Diane Braaten was honored by the Pierce County Executive and County Council June 3 for extraordinary leadership as chair of the Livable Communities Fair steering committee. An estimated 40,000 men, women and children attended fairs in 2002 at Gig Harbor, 2004 at Parkland, 2006 at Puyallup and 2008 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.
A proclamation presented by Executive John W. Ladenburg and passed by the council recognized Braaten, who is an assistant to Ladenburg, for “extraordinary leadership in producing outstanding Livable Communities Fairs” and for “setting high standards for future educational and informative events.”
Both Ladenburg and Braaten said they hope the next county executive — his second and final term ends Dec. 31 — retains the Livable Communities Fair. “It is something that shows the citizens that government can help them and be useful as a resource in many ways,” he said.
